First-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Chesterton Past Mishawaka Freshman Cavemen to Win the Freshman Tournament

By GameChanger Media Chesterton scored eight runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Mishawaka Freshman Cavemen 14-2 on Saturday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. Chesterton jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after #9 singled, scoring one run, #12 singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, #18 singled, scoring two runs, #9 singled, scoring two runs, and #12 grounded out, scoring one run. Chesterton added one run in the second after Mishawaka Freshman Cavemen committed an error. Chesterton added one run in the third after #21 doubled to center field. #45 earned the win for Chesterton. The starter surrendered three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out five and walking two. Carson Gorsuch took the loss for Mishawaka Freshman Cavemen. The pitcher went three innings, giving up 10 runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out none and walking three. Johnny Huemmer, Noah Valdez, and Akeem Chester each collected one hit for Mishawaka Freshman Cavemen. Johnny Huemmer and Gaeton Groninger were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Mishawaka Freshman Cavemen. Akeem Chester stole two bases. Chesterton piled up 12 hits in the game. #9 went 3-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. #21, #19, and #18 each collected multiple hits for Chesterton.
