Shawn Nowacki’s Big Day Propels Varsity Cavemen Over Morgan Township 7-5

By GameChanger Media Shawn Nowacki drove in four runs on two hits to lead Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen past Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees 7-5 on Saturday. Nowacki hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen opened the scoring in the third after Nowacki singled, scoring one run. Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Matthew Symer singled, scoring one run, and Cal Lemmons tripled, scoring three runs. Nowacki homered to center field, which helped Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen tie the game at four in the top of the fifth. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen took the lead in the top of the sixth. An error scored one run, to give Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen the upper hand, 5-4. Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run to center field by Clint Lemmons. Maddux Kuhnle (1-0) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Jett Gheaja took the loss for Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out five and walking none. Jayden Pyle stepped on the mound first for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The hurler allowed five hits and four runs over three innings, striking out five and walking six. Noah Deeds collected the save. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen collected nine hits in the game. Deeds and Nowacki each collected two hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen stole four bases in the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen turned one double play in the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen didn't commit a single error in the field. Kamdon Putz had the most chances in the field with 11. Lemmons led Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Lemmons went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees in hits. Noah Ladra led Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees with two walks.
