Varsity Cavemen Roll Past Wawasee 12-2

By GameChanger Media Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen (12-5, NLC. 7-2) won big over Wawasee 12-2 on Friday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen opened the scoring in the first after Izaiah Bute singled, scoring one run. A single by Jayden Pyle, a double by Noah Deeds, and a single by Shawn Nowacki helped Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen extend their early lead in the second. Drew Ginter (5-0) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The hurler surrendered four hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking two. Kyhan Heisler took the loss for Wawasee. The hurler went four innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking two. Deeds led Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with four runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Bute and Nowacki were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen while hitting back-to-back. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen had patience at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Will Hartzke, Nowacki, and Braedyn Smith led the team with two walks each. Nowacki, Brady Hoopingarner, and Aiden Rogers each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen ran wild on the base paths, tallying nine stolen bases for the game. Ryan Mack went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Finley Miller led Wawasee with two hits in three at bats.
