Varsity Cavemen Storm Back To Win Thriller Over Plymouth 7-6

By GameChanger Media Despite trailing by as many as four runs, Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen rallied to defeat Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims 7-6 on Wednesday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims opened the scoring in the second after Preston Wolfe singled, scoring one run. Kamdon Putz lined out, which helped Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen tie the game at one in the bottom of the third. A single by Parker Wolfe gave Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims the lead, 3-1, in the top of the fourth. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a double by Izaiah Bute, a sacrifice fly by Will Hartzke, and a single by Braedyn Smith. Smith (3-1) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one. Wolfe (2-3) took the loss for Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims. The reliever went one and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on one hit, striking out five and walking two. Landon Johns stepped on the mound first for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The starter allowed seven hits and six runs (three earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking five. Brody Krumie led things off on the bump for Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking two. Shawn Nowacki and Gage Spychalski each collected two hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Bute, Hartzke, Spychalski, Putz, and Smith each drove in one run for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Drew Ginter stole two bases. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen ran wild on the base paths, tallying 10 stolen bases for the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen turned one double play in the game. Wolfe led Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Trey Delp, Wolfe, and Adon Macias each collected two hits for Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims. Wolfe led Plymouth Varsity Pilgrims with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.
