By GameChanger Media Shawn Nowacki collected three hits in four at bats, as Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen defeated Wawasee 13-3 on Wednesday at Wawasee High School. Nowacki singled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fourth inning. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kamdon Putz singled down the right field line, and Drew Ginter tripled to center field, each scoring one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen committed an error, which helped Wawasee tie the game at two in the bottom of the first. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Wawasee committed an error, and Ginter was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen scored five runs on one hit in the top of the third inning. Izaiah Bute grounded out, scoring one run, Nowacki singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs. Braedyn Smith (1-1) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The pitcher allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking four. Reed Reidenbach took the loss for Wawasee. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering nine runs (five earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking five. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen piled up 10 hits in the game. Putz drove the middle of the lineup, leading Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with three runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-2 on the day. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Smith and Brady Hoopingarner led the team with two free passes each. Noah Deeds and Hoopingarner each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen ran wild on the base paths, collecting nine stolen bases for the game. Evan Byler and Luke Lehman each collected one hit for Wawasee. Byler led Wawasee with one run batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen now 5-3 and 2-0 in the NLC, welcome Goshen Varsity RedHawks on Friday for their next game.
