By GameChanger Media Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen could not keep up with South Bend St. Joseph 7-5 on Monday at St. Patrick's County Park. South Bend St. Joseph got on the board in the first inning after Brett Mason hit a solo home run to left field. Drew Ginter singled down the right field line, which helped Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen tie the game at one in the top of the fourth. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen jumped back into the lead in the top of the sixth inning after South Bend St. Joseph committed an error, and Brady Hoopingarner hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. South Bend St. Joseph flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 7-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to right field by Joe Washburn that drove in three. Julian Cosey earned the win for South Bend St. Joseph. The hurler surrendered four hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking three. Noah Deeds took the loss for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The pitcher went one inning, allowing four runs on three hits, striking out none and walking two. Landon Johns stepped on the mound first for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and one run over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Josiah Gustine earned the save. Will Hartzke provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Ginter led Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with two hits in four at bats. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen stole four bases in the game. Washburn, Gustine, and Mason each collected two hits for South Bend St. Joseph. Washburn led South Bend St. Joseph with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day.
