JV Baseball Defeats Jimtown to Open Season

Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen Secure Win Against Jimtown By GameChanger Media Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen defeated Jimtown 6-3 on Tuesday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. A walk by Brady Francis put Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen on the board in the bottom of the first. Jimtown jumped back into the lead in the top of the third inning after Carson Covey doubled to center field, and Covey stole home, each scoring one run. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen captured the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third after Alex Demaegd grounded out, and Francis walked, each scoring one run. Cam Inbody grounded out, which helped Jimtown tie the game at three in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen went back into the lead after Francis walked, Tommy Hoover grounded out, and Aiden Rogers grounded out, each scoring one run. Xavier Mercado earned the win for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. The lefty allowed three hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking four. Justin Shellito took the loss for Jimtown. The hurler went three innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out three and walking two. Jack Taylor stepped on the bump first for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. The righty gave up three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out eight and walking one. Lawson Vanhoozer opened the game for Jimtown. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and three runs over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Gavin Franks collected the save. Liam Hacker, Cayson Meyer, and Demaegd each collected one hit for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. Rogers, Demaegd, and Hoover each drove in one run for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. Francis paced Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Francis, Kole Neace, and Demaegd each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen ran wild on the base paths, piling up 13 stolen bases for the game. Covey led Jimtown with one run batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Jimtown's Kolton Vitali, the number nine hitter, led Jimtown with two hits in two at bats. Covey stole three bases.
