The “Cave” at Mishawaka High School is the oldest active high school gym in Indiana. The first game played in The Cave was between Mishawaka and Brazil High School on Saturday, December 27, 1924, with Mishawaka falling 33-15. Brazil High School later consolidated with two neighboring schools in 1984 to form Northview High School, located just west of Brazil. To commemorate this historic milestone, Mishawaka High School reached out to Northview High School to see if they would be interested in playing a special game in celebration of The Cave’s 100th anniversary. While Northview is already scheduled for a tournament from December 26-29, 2024, they were enthusiastic about the opportunity and were thrilled to make the game happen. Northview High School will face Mishawaka High School on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in The Cave. JV contest will begin at 1:45pm This landmark game will honor a century of basketball tradition in Mishawaka, with both teams wearing throwback uniforms reminiscent of the 1924 era. Coaches will also sport throwback coaching gear, paying tribute to the early days of high school basketball. The event will be further enriched with 1924 basketball memorabilia provided by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, allowing fans to experience a tangible connection to the past. In addition to the game, tickets will be just $1, a symbolic gesture marking the centennial anniversary of The Cave.
