Junior Varsity vs Westview Jr-Sr High School For the fourth time in six days, the JV Girls soccer team was on the field for another game. This time the Lady Cavemen jumped on the bus for a trip to Westview High School in Topeka, IN. It was clear early on that the Cavemen were in for a battle. Not only against the Warriors, but agianst the fatigue and heavy legs that each player was beggning to experience. Westview jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the game, but as ususal, the Cavemen came to life and showed their never quit attitude. Mishawaka ended the half with four shots on goal but unfortuntaely none found the back of the net. The second half began with Mishawaka once again pressuirng the opposition. Lucy Armenta, Ciara Foley, and Alex Matute-Castillo found themselves with open shots but once again none got past the goalkeeper. Luck changed in the 59th minute when Westview was called for a handball just outside the 18-yard box. Like the Plymouth game, Elyse Taber lined up for the free kick. This time she didn't miss as her strong shot could not be handled by the goalkeeper and the Cavemen closed the gap to 2-1. The final 11 minutes were intense and fun to watch as the visitors from Mishawaka continued to pressure the Westview goal with three more shots on goal. In the end, Westview held on to win 2-1, but it was not easy or comfortable. The JV girls soccer team plays again Thursday against a talented Northridge team at Baker Park. Kickoff is set for 5:30pm.
