Junior Varsity vs Warsaw Community High School The Mishawaka JV Girls Soccer team returned to action Tuesday night against Warsaw. After a 19-day gap since their last JV game, the Lady Cavemen needed a few minutes to gather themselves and settle in against a very talented Tiger team. Mishawaka fell behind early 1-0 but regrouped and battled defensively, forcing the Tigers outside the box, and making them settle for long-range shots. Freshman Ciara Foley continued her defensive improvement and alongside sophomore Elyse Taber, the two of them clogged the middle frustrating the Warsaw attack. Sophomore Leah Gradeless was great in her defensive positioning and effort, frustrating the skilled Tiger forwards during their offensive transition. Goalkeeper Laya Almahdawi was outstanding, playing one of her best games ever. Laya recorded 22 saves for the Cavemen. Sophomore Kaylin Bowman returned to play Tuesday night, logging 70 minutes of action, and nearly scoring early in the second half when she got behind the Tiger defense and attempted a shot just inside the eighteen. Despite the 7-0 loss, the Lady Cavemen continued to play with energy and determination until the final whistle. Their sportsmanship and passion to improve is impressive. The JV soccer team returns to Baker Park to play Trinity on Thursday at 5:30pm.
