Lady Cavemen Triumph Over Elkhart in Softball Opener 11 – 8

ELKHART HIGH SCHOOL VS MISHAWAKA HIGH SCHOOL 8 11 Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E Elkhart High School 1 0 4 2 0 1 0 8 7 2 Mishawaka High School 1 1 3 0 6 0 0 11 14 1 On a night that saw a weather combination of sun, snow and cold temperatures, the Mishawaka Varsity Softball team defeated Elkhart Friday 11-8 at Baker Park. The visitors jumped out to leads of 5-2 and 7-5 before the hosts responded with 3-runs in the bottom of the 3rd and then a 6-run bottom of the 5th. Camila Ramirez-Quijada pitched the final 3 innings, allowing only 1 run and 1 hit to pick up the pitching win. She and Lilly St Clair combined to record 13 strikeouts. Offensively the Lady Cavemen pounded out 14 hits, including 5-doubles and a pair of triples by Karmen Frazier and Brynn Lewinski. Senior Sophia Hoover had 3-hits while Olivia Bultinck, Cassie Connell and Khloe Hershey each had two. Freshman Kallahan Steinman scored 2-runs and added 2-RBI’s. MHS next game is 5pm Tuesday at South Bend Saint Joseph’s. Their next home game is Saturday March 30, an 11am doubleheader versus Chesterton. By Brian Miller on Mar 23, 2024
