Mishawaka JV take lead and never look back in win over Huntington North

Mishawaka JV got on the board in the bottom of the first after Huntington North committed an error, and Huntington North dropped a third strike, each scoring one run. Emma Riggs singled, which helped Huntington North tie the game at two in the top of the second. An error gave Mishawaka the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the third. Mishawaka scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mikaela Mercado doubled, scoring one run, Aleigh Myers singled, scoring one run, and Gabby Whicker singled, scoring three runs. Myers earned the win for Mishawaka. The right-handed pitcher surrendered eight hits and fours runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Faith Minton took the loss for Huntington North. They went five innings, surrendering 15 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, striking out six and walking five. Mishawaka accumulated 11 hits in the game. Lynnaya West, Whicker, Paige Atkins, and Mercado each collected two hits for Mishawaka. West and Whicker each drove in three runs for Mishawaka. Makaela Blake and West each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka. Mishawaka had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game. Mishawaka ran wild on the base paths, piling up nine stolen bases for the game. Riggs led Huntington North with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Minton and Britain Helvie were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Huntington North while hitting back-to-back.
