Freitag Gets Walk-Off RBI Hit Over Northwood Panthers

The game as tied at seven in the bottom of the eighth when Bradyen Freitag singled, scoring Trey DeBroka. The game was back-and-forth, but a single in the eight inning helped the Cavemen take the lead for good. The Panthers got on the board in the first inning after Mason Warren singled, scoring one run. The Cavemen took the lead in the bottom of the second. Shawn Nowacki hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, to give the Cavemen the lead, 2-1. The Panthers took the lead in the top of the third inning after Conner Reed singled, Warren hit a sacrifice fly, and Beau Patterson doubled, each scoring one run. The Cavemen made the score 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth after Cooper Pritchett drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Mason Bogan hit into a fielder’s choice, which helped the Panthers tie the game at six in the top of the seventh. A fielder’s choice by Ryan Ransberger gave Northwood the lead, 7-6, in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Cavemen went back into the lead after Will Hartzke walked, and Freitag singled, each scoring one run. Landon Johns (2-1) earned the win for the Cavemen. He surrendered four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking five. Warren (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers. The southpaw went two-thirds of an inning, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking two. Colton Handley began the game for the Cavemen. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and four runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking four. Ty Stankovich started on the bump for Northwood. The righty gave up one hit and two runs over two innings, striking out two and walking two. Trey DeBroka, Freigtag, Nowacki, Gage Spychalski, Pritchett, and Izaiah Bute each collected one hit for the Cavemen. Freitag, Nowacki, and Spychalski each drove in one run for the Cavemen. Nowacki led the Cavemen with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Warren and Reed were a one-two pitch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Panthers. Patterson went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Northwood in hits. The Panthers had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Nate Dutkowski and Ransberger led the team with two walks each. The Panthers ran wild on the base paths, piling up five stolen bases for the game. After tonight’s game, the Cavemen improve to 7-4 and 4-1 in the NLC.
