Gage Spychalski Drives In 4 To Lead Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen Past Wawasee

Spychalski singled in the first scoring one, hit a sacrifice fly in the third scoring one, singled in the fourth scoring one, and singled in the fifth scoring one. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen got on the board in the top of the first inning after Will Hartzke doubled, Braedyn Smith singled, and Spychalski singled, each scoring one run. An error extended the Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning. A sacrifice fly by Spychalski, a single by Tyler Thomas, and a double by Shawn Nowacki helped Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen extend their early lead in the third. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen scored seven runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Spychalski singled, scoring one run, Kamdon Putz singled, scoring one run, Brayden Freitag was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Nowacki singled, scoring one run, Trey DeBroka drew a walk, scoring one run, and Dane Cripe induced Cooper Pritchett to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen scored nine runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Brady Hoopingarner singled, scoring two runs, Addison Coy induced Pritchett to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Spychalski singled, scoring one run, Putz drew a walk, scoring one run, Izaiah Bute singled, scoring one run, Alex Boehman singled, scoring one run, Nowacki drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored one run. Brady Gallo (4-1) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking three. Kaleb Salazar (0-4) took the loss for Wawasee. The starting pitcher went two innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, striking out none and walking one. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen amassed 20 hits in the game. Thomas, Spychalski, and Hartzke each collected three hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Nowacki and Spychalski each drove in four runs for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Putz, Boehman, and Smith each collected multiple hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Putz led Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Hunter Fiedeke and Ty Brooks each collected one hit for Wawasee.
