Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen got on the board in the first inning after Cooper Pritchett doubled, scoring one run. Illiana Christian flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 5-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Jake Scott that drove in two. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen jumped back into the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Shawn Nowacki doubled, and Will Hartzke doubled, each scoring two runs. Noah Deeds (2-0)earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. They allowed four hits and one run over six innings, striking out five and walking six. Sitter took the loss for Illiana Christian. They went two-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on one hit, striking out one and walking two. Alex Boehman started on the mound for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. They allowed three hits and five runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking two. Spencer Bandstra stepped on the hill first for Illiana Christian. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking three. Colton Handley collected the save. Tyler Thomas, Nowacki, Pritchett, and Hartzke each collected one hit for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Nowacki, Pritchett, and Hartzke each drove in two runs for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Kamdon Putz and Nowacki led the team with two bases on balls each. Nowacki stole two bases. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen stole four bases in the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Izaiah Bute made the most plays with five. Scott seized on their opportunities, leading Illiana Christian with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. They went 1-for-4 on the day. Gavin Meyer led Illiana Christian with two hits in three at bats. Illiana Christian had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Isaac VanderWoude and Tanner Post led the team with two bases on balls each. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen (10-8) play at home on Monday against Goshen in their next game.
