Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen were the first to get on the board in the second when Izaiah Bute singled, scoring one run. Ethan Cushway doubled, which helped Michigan City Varsity Wolves tie the game at one in the bottom of the second. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen took the lead in the top of the third. Will Hartzke tripled, scoring three runs, to give Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen the advantage, 4-1. Colton Handley earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Reece Carlson took the loss for Michigan City Varsity Wolves. They went three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking five. Noah Deeds and Brady Gallo each appeared in relief for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen amassed 10 hits in the game. Bute, Hartzke, Kamdon Putz, and Shawn Nowacki each collected two hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Bute, Hartzke, Cooper Pritchett, Trey DeBroka, Brayden Freitag, and Nowacki each drove in one run for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. DeBroka paced Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. DeBroka and Nowacki each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen ran wild on the base paths, tallying nine stolen bases for the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen didn’t commit a single error in the field. Putz had the most chances in the field with seven. Cushway, Brady O Malley, and Zaire McKinney each drove in one run for Michigan City Varsity Wolves. Carlson led Michigan City Varsity Wolves with two hits in four at bats. McKinney stole two bases. Michigan City Varsity Wolves turned one double play in the game. The Cavemen improve to 14-14 on the season and move on to the sectional championship against LaPorte. The game is Monday at 6:00 at Bill Nixon Field in Plymouth.
