Strong Hitting Not Enough As Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen Falls To Concord In Regional Matchup

Izaiah Bute led Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with three hits. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen opened the scoring in the first after Cooper Pritchett doubled, scoring one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Concord committed an error, and Will Hartzke hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Concord flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits to take a 6-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Lukas Ulfig that drove in three. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on six hits to take a 9-6 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Hartzke on an 0-2 count that drove in three. Concord tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a fielder’s choice by Andrew Kavanagh, and a single by Braedon Messenger. Concord jumped back into the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Emmanuel Rosa doubled, and Garrett Stewart hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Joey Hauger earned the win for Concord. The reliever gave up six hits and four runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one. Trey DeBroka took the loss for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. They went two innings, giving up five runs on six hits, striking out none and walking one. Brady Gallo stepped on the mound first for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. They surrendered one hit and three runs over three innings, striking out three and walking three. Messenger began the game for Concord. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen collected 13 hits in the game. Hartzke provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with four runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Pritchett and Shawn Nowacki each collected multiple hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kamdon Putz had the most chances in the field with seven. Concord collected 11 hits in the game. Messenger, Alex Kridler, and Jordan Flores each collected two hits for Concord. Messenger and Ulfig each drove in three runs for Concord. Noah Norwood led Concord with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Concord turned one double play in the game. The Cavemen finish their season 15-15. It’s been a great year with many memories.
