Pulse FM is the new radio home for Mishawaka football and basketball. WHME Sports Director Chuck Freeby said, “To add (Mishawaka) to the repertoire that we already have with IU football and basketball, along with Purdue football and basketball…. this is a home run for Pulse FM.” Mishawaka Director of Athletics Mark Polsgrove said, “To put our athletes on a different platform with 3 different radio stations is going to be a huge thing, especially in high school athletics.” Freeby commented, “I don’t think anybody else does have that, and that is one of the unique opportunities that we offer with Family Broadcasting and Pulse FM, is that Pulse is on three frequencies, 92.1, 96.9 and 103.1 FM. And with the exceptions of when we have IU or Purdue commitments, we’re going to have Mishawaka on all three of those.” Freeby, Angelo Dicarlo and Bo Hundt will continue to do the Game of the Week on WHME-TV while someone very familiar with Mishawaka will work all of our games. The “Voice of the Cavemen” will continue to be veteran broadcaster Brian Miller. “You know there’s nothing better than a Friday night at Steele Stadium or The Cave doing high school football or basketball games,” said Miller. He continued, “Cavemen Footballl is a religion if you will. And I’m just so thrilled to be a small part of that.” Freeby said that this is a really good fit for what they do, “I think we’ve had the reputation of doing things very professionally here at WHME, whether it’s with TV or radio, and I get the same vibe from the people at Mishawaka. That’s one of the reasons I feel like this is a great partnership.” Mishawaka fans can start their Friday night’s listening to “Drive to the Game” with Chuck Freeby and Angelo DiCarlo at 6 pm. After they preview the area’s matchups, Miller will come on at 6:40 with the Mishawaka football preview and the Keith Kinder Pregame Show. The season kicks off this year on the road at Mishawaka Marian August 23rd. The Cavemen have the home opener against Penn on August 30th. That game will also be the first game on the newly installed artificial turf. Miller said, “I’ll have to get used to saying on the turf, but that will come in time. There is something about a new school year and a new football season.” This new opportunity won’t affect the arrangement we have with our own Mishawaka Network. The games will still be on video with the stream on IHSAATV.org and the Champions Network. It’s also part of the contract that students can be involved with the broadcast as a sideline reporter or in the booth helping in various ways. School City of Mishawaka and the Mishawaka Education Foundation will both have prominent roles supporting the broadcasts. If you would like to advertise on the radio or on the Mishawaka Network, you can contact Mr. Miller at (574) 250-0822, or email him at brianjmiller517@gmail.com.
