Fourth-Inning Spurt Lead Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen Past Wawasee Junior Varsity Warriors

May 8, 2026 vs. Wawasee Junior Varsity Warriors Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen defeated Wawasee Junior Varsity Warriors 18-5 on Friday at Wawasee High School thanks in part to 12 runs in the fourth inning. Chlebek drew a walk, scoring one run, Mercado singled, scoring two runs, Valdez doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Semak singled, scoring one run, Darnell was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Chlebek singled, scoring one run, Mercado singled, scoring two runs, Valdez doubled, scoring one run, and Summers scored after tagging up. A single by Mercado put Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen on the board in the top of the first. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen committed an error, which helped Wawasee Junior Varsity Warriors tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen broke up the tie when Darnell doubled, scoring three runs. Then a single by Franks followed to extend the lead to 5-1. An error extended the Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen lead to 6-2 in the top of the third inning. Mercado earned the win for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. The starter gave up four hits and five runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking four. Miller took the loss for Wawasee Junior Varsity Warriors. The starter went three innings, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on seven hits, striking out seven and walking three. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen amassed 11 hits in the game. Valdez and Mercado were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen while hitting back-to-back. Mercado provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen with four runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Darnell collected two hits for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen in three at bats. Franks paced Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Darnell, Valdez, Semak, Ecker, and Franks each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen ran wild on the base paths, amassing 14 stolen bases for the game. Miller went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Cleveland, Farber, Miller, and Ringle each collected one hit for Wawasee Junior Varsity Warriors.
