Fifth-Inning Spurt Lead Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen Past Wawasee May 8, 2026 vs. Wawasee Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen defeated Wawasee 12-0 on Friday at Wawasee High School thanks in part to nine runs in the fifth inning. Ginter tripled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Deeds drew a walk, scoring one run, Putz was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Demaegd doubled, scoring three runs, and an error scored one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen got on the board in the top of the third inning after Putz doubled down the left field line, and Handley singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Handley (4-1-1) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Heisler took the loss for Wawasee. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, giving up 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out six and walking four. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen amassed 10 hits in the game. Demaegd drove the middle of the lineup, leading Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
