Handley’s Big Day Propels Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen Past LaPorte Slicer Varsity May 7, 2026 vs. LaPorte Slicer Varsity Handley collected three hits in three at bats, as Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen defeated LaPorte Slicer Varsity 5-1 on Thursday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. Handley tripled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Handley singled to the left side of the infield, and Johns grounded out, each scoring one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen added one run in the third after Handley tripled down the left field line. Deeds (2-0) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The starter surrendered two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking four. Matzke took the loss for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The pitcher went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one. Pyle appeared in relief for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Benedict led LaPorte Slicer Varsity with one run batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Benedict and Combs each collected two hits for LaPorte Slicer Varsity.
