In a battle of winless teams, Mishawaka (0-3) traveled to Plymouth (0-4) for this NLC matchup. Plymouth got possession of the ball first and on the second play from scrimmage scored on a 62 yard TD run. Mishawaka blocked the extra point, making the score 0-6 Plymouth. On Mishawaka’s possession they drove the ball deep into Plymouth territory, but fumbled the ball, resulting in a turnover.

On it’s next possession Plymouth was forced to punt. Mishawaka started the drive at their own 41. The tandem of Justin Fisher and Drew Mason carried Mishawaka into the red zone, where Fisher rushed into the end zone from 13 yards out. Fisher added the 2 point conversion to give Mishawka the lead 8-6.

Mishawaka’s defense forced a 3 and out after a sack by Max Micola. Mishawaka followed this with an 8-play 51 yard drive, capped by a Mason TD. Mishawaka once again went for and was successful on a pass from Fisher to sophomore Chaz Hardy. 16-6 Mishawaka.

Mishawaka’s defense once again held and forced a Plymouth punt. On it’s next possession Mishawaka was driving, but was called for a penalty on 3rd & 6, and after an incomplete pass on 3rd & 11, was also forced to punt. Plymouth took over at their 34 yard line and on their 3rd play of the drive completed a 46 yard pass taking them to the 1 yard line. They scored the next play and added the 2 point conversion, making the score 16-14 Mshawaka.

Plymouth’s kickoff went out of bounds, giving Mishawaka the ball at the 35 yard line. Trying to get a TD before the half, Fisher attempted to hit DaVonn Parker deep, but the pass was intercepted. The defense was able to hold Plymouth from scoring before half time, leaving the score 16-14 Mishawaka, at the half.

Mishawaka received the ball to start the half and went on a 9-play 63 yard TD drive. Fisher scored from 19 yards out and added the 2 point conversion. 24-14 Mishawaka. Plymouth drove the ball into Mishawaka territory before facing a 4th & 3. They completed the 4th down pass, but fumbled. Kanaan Jewett of Mishawaka recovered the fumble.

Mishawaka went on another long drive. This one 12 plays and 66 yards. Mason scored the TD and Milan Burris caught the 2pt conversion from Justin Fisher. Mishawaka extended their lead 32-14. On the next drive Plymouth’s QB fumbled and the ball was recovered by Colin Lutz of Mishawaka. 4 plays later Justin Fisher was in the end zone on a 2 yard TD run. Connor George kicked the extra point, making it 39-14 Cavemen.

Plymouth added a TD and 2pt conversion mostly on Mishawaka’s backups, to bring the score to 39-22. They attempted an onside kick and recovered it. They scored again on Mishawaka’s backups, and added another 2pt conversion, bringing the score to 39-30. However, the next onside kick was unsuccessful and Mishawaka kneeled out the clock. Final Score 39-30 Mishawaka.

The win gives Mishawaka it’s first win of the season and it’s first ever win in the Northern Lakes Conference (NLC). The Cavemen are now 1-3 (1-1 NLC) and play Concord next.
