The Mishawaka Swimmers & Divers hosted the Northridge Raiders on Thursday night and had another impressive showing heading into winter break. Despite being broken down from a hectic meet schedule, increased training intensity and first semester finals, the Cavemen earned 41 Personal Records on the night, competing against strong Northridge squads; the Lady Raiders placed 2nd overall at last year’s State meet.
It was a bittersweet meet for Hailey Buchner, the only Senior who has been on the team for all four years of high school; she is graduating ahead of schedule – in just a few days – and thus swam her last meet tonight. She made it a good one – earning two PRs on the night: the 50 Backstroke in the 200 Medley Relay and the 100 Freestyle. Hailey will still be on the team as a volunteer assistant coach for the rest of the season.
To add to the excitement, we were honored to have our meet streamed live through the Mishawaka Network YouTube channel, commentated by Bruce Quick, last year’s Team Captain and Frank M. Steele Award recipient, and available to replay at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXyXS6aDdSM&t=4367s.
We hope to have more live streaming at future meets. Thanks to everyone who helped orchestrate!
