The Cavemen hosted the Elkhart Central Blazers on Tuesday, and it was another bittersweet night; both squads swam well, racking up a combined 43 Team PRs, but it was also the last double-dual meet of the season and the last regular-season meet of the year for the girls, who are looking forward to their Northern Indiana Conference Championship this weekend.

The biggest highlights from the night came from a string of big “barriers” being broken; typically swims that break into a new digits column, e.g. breaking 1:00 for the first time in a 100 yard race. We saw more tonight than we have at any other meet so far this season:
Junior Alex Kincannon broken :30 for the first time in his 50 Backstroke, clocking 29.61 to lead off the Medley Relay. Just a few minutes later, he broke an even bigger one – hitting a 59.90 in his 100 Butterfly for his first time under a minute in the event.
Senior Captain Mia Guerra had a similar race in the very next heat – hitting 59.78 in her first sub-minute 100 Freestyle.
Junior Tyler Ackerley broken 3:00 in his 200 IM, clocking 2:56.47 – made more impressive by the fact that it was his first 200 IM ever.
Sophomore Kat Chesson saw her 50 Free under :30 for the first time – clocking 29.45 in her 200 Free Relay split.
Freshman Claire Reynolds came in at 1:36.20 in her first-ever 100 Butterfly, and although there wasn’t a specific goal-time cracked, she broke the barrier of knocking out that all-intimidating first-ever 100 Fly, a high milestone for first year swimmers.

Top finishes on the night:
Senior Captain Eric Arseneau took 1st in the 200 Freestyle, winning by nearly 5 seconds, and scored 2nd overall in the 100 Free.
Sophomore Captain Ethan Stanton & teammate Kincannon set PRs in their 200 IMs to secure the 1-2 finish.
Senior Captain Abby Stahly took 2nd overall in Diving followed closely by Junior teammate Mia Woods.
Freshman Lucas Libbey took 2nd place in Diving for the Boys.
Kincannon’s minute-breaking 100 Fly was good for 2nd place overall, followed by Sophomore teammate and Captain Cole Karnes.
Guerra’s minute-breaking 100 Free was good for 2nd overall. Later in the meet she set a big PR in the 100 Backstroke, an off event, that earned her 1st place in the event.
Junior Trevor Heintzberger also PR’d in his 100 Backstroke for a 2nd place finish, followed by Junior teammate Mark Crooks.
Sophomore Lilly Wilson earned 2nd place in her 100 Backstroke.

The Boys take on Clay at Home this Thursday, and the Girls take on the entire Conference at the brand new Elkhart Health & Aquatic Center on Saturday.
