The Cavemen wrapped up the regular season with a win on Tuesday night, traveling to Washington High School to take on the Panthers. It was a fast meet, as neither side had divers, and the accelerated timeline came with both benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, the meet got out a bit earlier than usual, which means more sleep! A good thing, especially considering that the Northern Indiana Conference Championship is this Saturday. On the other hand, swimmers get a lot less rest between races, meaning our squad was racing tired after the first few events. Combined with no warm down pool to help remove lactic acid, circumstances weren’t exactly “ideal” for great races.

That didn’t stop the Cavemen from earning 13 PRs on the night, highlighted by numerous first time swims, photo-finish races, and huge time drops.

Washington took the first event, the 200 Medley Relay, but the Cavemen responded in the very next event – the 200 Freestyle. Senior Ryan Watt finished just 0.04 seconds ahead of the Panthers’ top swimmer to secure a 1-2-3 finish for the Cavemen with teammates Ethan Stanton and Cole Karnes, both Sophomores & Captains.

The Cavemen went 1-2-3 in three more events, the 200 Individual Medley, 100 Backstroke & 100 Breaststroke, and ended up taking first place in 9 of 11 events overall. See below for top finishers.

Davin Cockey (9) – dropped over 30 seconds to CRUSH his 500 Freestyle PR, followed by dropping over three seconds in his 100 Freestyle while anchoring the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Captain Eric Arseneau (12) – completing the “Gauntlet” – swimming the last four events back-to-back-to-back-to-back in his last high school dual meet. And finishing with some pretty impressive times!

It was a great finish to the regular season, and the Cavemen are heading into Conference Championships in high spirits and ready to race!
