The Cavemen lost a close one Friday night, at Father Bly Field to the Saint Joe Indians.
The game went back and forth, St. Joe leading for most of it, the Cavemen just kept fighting back.
The Indians ended the first half on a good note after capitalizing off a Mishawaka turnover and scoring on a trick play, to end the half up 21-6.
The Cavemen then roared out in the second half taking up over half of the 3rd quarter on a touchdown drive to cut into the lead 21-12. The Cavemen then kept fighting and cut the lead to 2, after a 20 yard run by Senior Cameron Kahlenback, and a 47 yard touchdown run by Junior Sam Shively, but the comeback came up short, losing 27-25.
Sam Shively led the Cavemen offense with 156 yards, on 15 rushes, and had 3 touchdowns. Harness followed with 146 yards on 32 carries, and 1 touchdown.
Noah Staton led the defense with 8 tackles, while Derrick Dawson had 6.
The IHSAA Sectional Draw is on Sunday, and Mishawaka and St. Joe are in the same sectional, so the Cavemen may have their shot at redemption.
