Cavemen News · Mishawaka’s Gavin Hoover Signs with Western Michigan

Mishawaka Senior Gavin Hoover signed his National Letter of Intent Monday with Western Michigan University.  Hoover has been doing online courses with MHS while playing with the Florida Eels Hockey Club.  He said he has been playing hockey since he was 3 years old and this is a dream come true.  “It’s always been my dream to play professional hockey.  Just getting to the level of collegiate is amazing to me.  I’m so happy that I can have this opportunity.”

Gavin has sacrificed a lot for his favorite sport.  Even living down south and playing for the Florida Eels since he was 16.  “It’s the next step,” said his dad Neil Hoover.  “We’re not trying to put the cart before the horse so to speak.  He’s progressively learning.  The next step would be the NCAA and from there, the pros.”  Gavin said, “I’ve been playing since I was three years old.  Year round.   I try to stay on the ice as much as I can.”

His dad said they’ve traveled hundreds of thousands of miles for this dream, “Traveled to Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis.  We’ve been all over the United States just so he can play this sport.”   Gavin is excited to play for the Broncos.  “I’m just so happy I can go to a place that does have a good hockey program that is so close to home.”  Gavin plans to study engineering at WMU.  “Of course I have to thank my parents, and even my sister.  She’ll be out there helping me train sometimes and we help each other.  And of course I have to thank my grandparents too.  Everybody is there supporting me and right by my side, always.”
