Mishawaka is off to their best start since the 2012-13 season with a 3-1 record. The Cavemen have reeled off three straight wins against Elkhart Christian, Calumet and Elkhart. The Cavemen beat Calumet 78-76 Saturday with a thrilling overtime win. Then they backed up the victory 3 days later with a 60-55 victory over the newly created Elkhart Lions. Senior Trent Johnson scored 31 points to pace the Maroons.
Coach Ron Hecklinski is happy with the intensity of his team and how hard they play. A COVID situation forced the team to miss a number of practices over Christmas Break, but now the Cavemen are back and ready to play as many games as they can before the Sectional in March.
Up next is a trip to Plymouth in the school’s first ever boys varsity basketball game in the Northern Lakes Conference. The Pilgrims are 2-8. Tipoff is set for 6:15 for the JV with the Varsity contest at 7:45.
