Mishawaka’s top three athletes were announced recently. Joe Walker was the George Wilson Winner as the top male athlete, Ryleigh Banks was the Shelley Werner Winner as the top female athlete, and the VFW Award Winner for the top Citizen of the senior athletes went to Donovan Snyder.
Snyder made the Indiana High School Football All-Star team. He was also the leading hitter for the baseball team while playing lettering in basketball as well.
Banks played volleyball, softball, basketball and ran X-country one year. She was voted as a captain in two sports.
And Walker was not only the NIC MVP and State Champ in Wrestling, he was also a key member of the track team and a letter winner in soccer his senior year.
The Wilson and Werner Awards take into consideration skill, honor, leadership, citizenship, academic participation and number of sports. The VFW goes to the top citizen of the senior athletes with good example and leadership qualities.
