Cavemen News · Mishawaka Motivation – Flashback to 2001 with Sarah Schools-Clay

This week’s Mishawaka Motivation, presented by Elkhart Brass, takes us back to 2001.   Sarah Schools was an outstanding basketball and softball player for Mishawaka.  Before her senior year she was injured in an ATV accident and paralyzed from the waist down.  An inspiring campaign came about during that time with a simple phrase, “What’s My Mission”.    In an exclusive interview with Dean Huppert, she said during her recovery, “I try not to dwell on it.  If I dwell on it, it would be hard.  I just try to enjoy every day that I have here that I get to spend with the team.  If this would have happened and I didn’t have basketball….Basketball is like my best friend.  Then I would definitely be having a terrible time.”

Despite her spinal cord injury, she came back as a senior to help Mike Breske as a student coach of the Cavemen girls basketball team.  Sarah went on to Butler University and graduated with a degree in pharmacy.  She married her husband Jeremy in 2004.  They now live in Indianapolis and have 5 daughters and a son.
