Cavemen News · The 1974 Cavemen are State Runner-Ups – Mishawaka Memory Presented by: Celebrations Palace

This Mishawaka Memory is presented by: Celebrations Palace.   1974 was a special year for Mishawaka.  The Maroons won the Northern Indiana Conference and finished 10-2 with kids like Scot Shaw and Tim Dawson playing their hearts out. The Cavemen and Head Coach Bill Doba made it all the way to the 3A State Final.  A few Assistant Coaches that year were John Danaher, Larry Stillson and Al Smith.  Mishawaka battled to the end in the state championship but fell short 19-12 against Indianapolis Washington.   Tonight we celebrate the 45th anniversary of that magical season.

Former Mishawaka Football Coach Bill Doba (Center) came back to enjoy the Penn Mishawaka game and celebrate the 45th anniversary of the 1974 State Runner-up team. He’s pictured with Indiana Football Hall of Fame coaches Scott Bovenkerk and Bill Sharpe.
