Time ran out on the Mishawaka Baseball team, but not before the they put their heart and soul on display in the Final 4 game at the Class 4A Semi-State.
Mishawaka was down 2-0 just two batters into the game as Hamilton Southeastern drew a walk and then hit a home run. Sam Shively, Grant Jablonski and Ryan Watt held the Royals to only 6 hits in the game. It was 4-0 heading into the 7th when Colin Fee started the inning off with a base hit. Jablonski found a way on and then it was time for a 2 out rally. AJ Rosebush came through with a clutch hit scoring a Mishawaka run. And then it was Nick Bodle with a big RBI to cut the deficit to only two. The Cavemen were knocking on the door with a pair of runners on and power hitter Derrick Dawson at the plate. Unfortunately HSE had 2 pitchers that are going to Ball State and Xavier and time ran out on Mishawaka’s Dream Season. The Cavemen fall 4-2 and one game short of the state Finals. But what a ride it was. 25-7 and playing in the semi-state for the first time in 22 years.
Coach Huemmer told his team after the game, “Thank you”” He said he will miss the 14 seniors, but they will go on and accomplish many great things in their lives.
