The Mishawaka Wrestling team had a banner day at the Penn Wrestling Regional. Thirteen Cavemen started the day, 5 made it to the Championship round, and 4 came away as the Regional Champ. Brodie Fogarty at 113, Brendon Mark at 126, Drew Mason at 152 and Joe Walker at 170 lbs all won individual titles. Gabe Weeks made it to the championship at 138, but lost by fall. Mason and Fogarty both won with pins while Brendan Mark was declared the champion after an injury default.
Walker was down by a point in the final seconds against Plymouth’s Graham Calhoun, who was 33-0. Walker found leverage with the clock about to expire and got a huge take down that made the crowd erupt with excitement. It was the most dramatic finish of the Regional and the “Highlight of the Night” for Mishawaka Wrestling.
Junior Jacob LaPlace suffered his first loss of the season in the semi-finals to a wrestler from Culver Military Academy.
The Cavemen will have 8 wrestlers advance to the semi-state in East Chicago next Saturday.
