The John Young Jaguars played the Big 11 Championship against NorthWood in front of a big crowd at Mishawaka’s Steele Stadium Tuesday night. The Jags had lost in the title game in 7th grade, but now a year older, the motivated 8th graders would not be denied in 2018. Mishawaka beat NorthWood 22-16.
Head Coach JJ Solfronk said he’s been praying for a moment like this for 8 years. Tanner Parmley and Isaac Valdez called the win of the the greatest moments of their lives. Chase Gooden and Arthur Jones both scored touchdowns for the Jaguars who ended the season with only one loss.
Coach Solfronk told the kids after the game that they will remember this game for the rest of their lives. He also said that they have now graduated from being football Jags and are now Cavemen. He and Coach Kinder both said they hope this is not the last championship the kids win on the varsity field.
